6 million euros for humanitarian demining: competition for non-profit organizations opened

On March 19, 2025, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) announced a large-scale grant competition to finance demining in frontline regions of Ukraine. The Kharkiv region, which is one of the most affected by hostilities, has been identified as a priority for the implementation of initiatives.
The competition provides support for projects aimed at non-technical and technical surveying of territories, marking of dangerous areas, as well as information campaigns to raise public awareness of mine threats. The total budget is 6 million euros.
Who can apply?
Only non-profit organizations (NPOs) registered under Italian law or in partnership with such NGOs may participate in the competition. However, organizations may involve commercial mine action operators as partners to carry out the work.
Submitted projects must include the following components:
✅ Non-technical and/or technical survey of territories
✅ Marking mined areas
✅ Information campaigns on mine risk
The maximum funding amount for projects submitted by a single applicant is €1.2 million. For joint projects submitted by two or more organisations, this amount increases to €1.8 million.

This initiative is an important step in international cooperation for a secure future for Ukraine. Thanks to the involvement of foreign partners, the process of clearing land from explosive objects gains new dynamics, which will allow for a faster return of security to Ukrainian communities.
