A secure future: innovations in humanitarian demining in Ukraine
03.04.2025
Ukraine is the first country to create a demining market during wartime
Unlike other countries that began the process of humanitarian demining after the end of hostilities, Ukraine:
✔ forms an efficient and transparent market now;
✔ combines public, international and private resources for faster demining;
✔ develops innovative solutions to optimize processes.
Innovative solutions: digital prioritization system for mined areas
Ukraine is developing a unique digital product – a prioritization system that will allow:
📌 Assess the scale of the problem - combining all data on mined areas.
📌 Prioritize demining – AI algorithms will determine which areas are most important.
📌 Update information - operational designation of cleaned and re-contaminated areas.
System users:
▪️ Government agencies – to manage the process.
▪️Agrarians – to track the condition of their lands.
▪️ International donors – to assess the effectiveness of investments.
▪️Public – to obtain reliable information.
Digitalization as a strategic direction
Ukraine is already working on creating an ecosystem of digital products that will minimize the human factor and ensure transparency of funding. The Center, together with the Ministry of Economy and Palantir, is developing a cross-platform demining management system that will include:
✔ Monitoring of operations.
✔ Integration with Prozorro.
✔ Public and private access to data.
✔ Automated reporting.
🌍 European partners are already supporting the digitalization of Ukrainian demining. 🇬🇧 Britain and 🇨🇭 Switzerland have invested in creating digital algorithms to prioritize areas in the Kharkiv region.
🗓 The first working prototype of the digital map is planned for the end of 2025.
