For the first time, a set of humanitarian demining activities was carried out under a contract between the Humanitarian Demining Center and a mine action operator (PMD operator). All work was performed by Ukrainian Demining Services LLC with the participation of subcontractors - Ukroboronservice and Global Clearance Solutions.
On December 29, 2024, the PMD operator completed work on the land of the Potato Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (NAAS) in the Kyiv region, with a total area of 487.3 hectares.
The complex of works included, in particular:
- Non-technical examination;
- Technical inspection;
- Clearing areas of combat operations;
- Demining using machines and mechanisms (Bozena and GCS-200).
The quality of the work has been checked by the Mine Action Center. Certificates of transfer of responsibility for the cleared/demined area have been issued.
The mine action operator was transferred 14.99 million hryvnias from the escrow account. Recall that under this contract, the savings amounted to almost 55% of the expected cost.
"The demining of the lands of the Potato Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is of strategic importance, as these territories are the basis for the selection of new high-yielding potato varieties, the development of technologies for its cultivation, and the study of the gene pool of this crop. They belong to the state property and are classified as especially valuable. The completion of demining means not only the return of these lands to safe use, but also a contribution to food security and the development of agricultural science in the country," said Volodymyr Bayda, director of the Humanitarian Demining Center.
