Modern demining in Ukraine
27.06.2025
A large-scale event “The Future of Demining: Ukraine in Action” was held in Lviv region, bringing together over 200 participants from all over the country. The event became a platform for demonstrating the latest solutions in the field of humanitarian demining and practical testing of equipment in conditions close to real-life.
For two days, at the Training and Testing Complex, Ukrainian equipment manufacturers, representatives of government agencies, international organizations, demining operators, and farmers discussed the challenges facing the sector and sought joint solutions.
Participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with samples of modern equipment - from armored ground drones to multifunctional platforms for mechanized cleaning of territories. Each vehicle passed a specially prepared route with imitation of explosive objects, demonstrating its effectiveness on different types of soil and in difficult landscape conditions.
20 companies from different regions of Ukraine presented their innovative solutions - including systems for safe detonation-free ammunition disposal, equipment for remote detection and destruction of explosive ordnance, and mobile complexes to assist sappers.
A separate focus of the event was a discussion of the implementation and results of the state program for compensation for agricultural land demining costs. Volodymyr Bayda, Director of the Humanitarian Demining Center, presented the key achievements and challenges of this program. He emphasized the need to scale up already developed solutions and ensure wider access to participation.
"We are already seeing how a transparent, open and competitive model of compensation for demining costs gives real results. But today it is important not only to scale it to new categories of land, in particular forest lands, but also to ensure barrier-free access to participation for every farmer, in particular a sole proprietor. Because every hectare is about returning life, work and confidence in the future," emphasized the director of the Humanitarian Demining Center.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in partnership with the Ministry of Defense and the Humanitarian Demining Center with the support of the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine and funding from the Government of Luxembourg.
