07.04.2026
Currently, about 132,000 km² remain contaminated with explosive objects in Ukraine. Almost 42,000 km² has already been returned to productive use. The World Bank predicts that Ukraine will take about 10 years and 34 billion dollars to completely clear mines. Volodymyr Bayda, director of the Center for Humanitarian Demining, says that it is possible to clean the state from faster.
Such figures (were announced by the World Bank - ed.) before the start of the humanitarian demining process. Together with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Economy and the State Emergency Service, we see that the pace taken by Ukrainian operators, achievements and scientific and technical progress allow us to talk about rather optimistic things. I hope that in 3 years the most difficult areas can be cleaned at 80%”, –
he said.
Volodymyr Bayda urged Ukrainians not to approach unusual and incomprehensible objects, not only in front-line or border regions, but also throughout Ukraine.
