Volodymyr Bayda, Director of the Humanitarian Demining Center (Center), reported on the results of the institution's work during a meeting on the implementation of demining activities in 2024, chaired by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
Last year, the Center signed 47 contracts with certified mine action operators for the purchase of services for the demining of agricultural land plots.
The largest area of agricultural land covered by signed agreements is in Kharkiv region – 7.1 thousand hectares. The total amount is UAH 404.6 million.
In the Kyiv region, the area of land under signed contracts is 1.2 thousand hectares with a total value of almost 60.2 million UAH.
The area of agricultural land covered by signed contracts for the purchase of services in the Mykolaiv region is almost 903 hectares. The total cost is UAH 53.2 million.
In the Kherson region – 240.3 hectares with a total value of UAH 14.3 million.
"According to the results of the auctions held on the Prozorro platform, savings of UAH 95.2 million were achieved under the concluded contracts, i.e. the total actual amount decreased by 15.17% compared to the expected one. This confirms the effectiveness of the compensation program and contributes to further optimization of costs in the field of humanitarian demining, which is an important step towards returning agricultural lands to safe use," the Director of the Center noted.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal outlined plans for 2025:
- to carry out technical survey work on territories covering an area of 31 thousand km²;
- introduce new innovative technologies, in particular using drones and robotic complexes;
- create a Register of contaminated/suspected contaminated areas;
- continue the development of the training center for sappers, which is being created with the support of Japan;
- create an interdepartmental training base where they will work with mine-sniffing dogs and detector dogs.
In addition, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of developing the Humanitarian Demining Center this year, and also noted the need to intensify efforts to attract donor funds to the field of humanitarian demining.
